Anglers Can Still Help Fisheries Management and Win Valuable Prizes Through iGHOFish App
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL— NOVEMBER 3, 2015 – Open to anglers anywhere in the world, Guy Harvey Outpost Resort’s innovative “Fish for the Future” cyber tournament is still only a download away from a chance to win valuable prizes and a send button click to share valuable catch information to help scientists net valuable fisheries data.
The tournament ends December 31st but the science behind it is just getting started.
The tournament’s iGHOFISH app was created to serve as the record keeper not only for various divisions and awards for twenty gamefish species but to help in building an important study database for fisheries management.
The iGHOFish utilizes software designed by the Snook and Gamefish Foundation (SGF) to support their efforts in fishery management. Catches will automatically populate the SGF’s database of over 130 inshore and offshore species.
According to Mark Ellert, Guy Harvey Outpost and its sponsors have made the tournament even more rewarding by holding a monthly Catch of the Month and a monthly Sweepstakes drawing for all anglers who log a trip that month.
“They don’t even have to catch a fish, just record their trip on the app, and they stand to win a prize,” said Ellert, Guy Harvey Outpost president.
The tournament will be awarding prizes at the end of the year for all species in the Master Angler and King of the Seas divisions, plus one wildcard winner.
Prizes provided through sponsors– GARMIN®, AFTCO®, D.O.A. Lures and EcoXGear— include GARMIN’s VIRB elite cameras, Quatix Marine Watches and Echo 301dv Fish Finders, Guy Harvey Apparel by AFTCO, DOA lure packages, Ecorox waterproof speaker and Guy Harvey Outpost Resort hotel stays, fishing charters, and more. About The Snook and Gamefish Foundation
Established in 1998 by Mr. William R. Mote, founder of the world-renowned marine science organization Mote Marine Laboratory, the mission of SGF is to aid in the protection and preservation of current fish populations for future generations by facilitating coordination between anglers, researchers, and policy makers. SGF maintains an unwavering ethos of the conservation, preservation, restoration and enhancement of estuarine and coastal water habitats that define fishing – and SGF believes informed anglers are the key to realizing these goals.
SGF’s Angler Action program was designed with Florida Fish and Wildlife Research Institute and input from the TPWD Coastal Fisheries Division and its data is used by Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for conduction stock assessments. The program now stands on the threshold of creating a global network of angling data that will assist with stock assessments and functional habitat identification and use.
