Maui Jim Fly Fishing Ambassadors

Maui Jim® Fly Fishing Ambassadors

Famed alpine U.S. Ski Team Racer, two-time Olympian and noted tarpon fly fisherman, Andy Mill, sports e variety of Maui Jim sunglasses.

·   For traveling, Mill prefers Ironwoods that are part of the new Maui Flex® line. He wears style H320-23 in metallic copper with brown and tan rubber tips and HCL® Bronze lenses that provide excellent contrast for everyday variable conditions. “This is a more ‘business look,’” says Mill.

·   For ripping down the side of a mountain at 60 miles per hour on his skis, he dons a pair Honolulus. “The big shield blocks the wind perfectly,” he adds.

·   For motorcycling, he also likes Canoe and Grander in the new Guy Harvey Collection.

·   For fishing:

·   In low light he wears the new MauiFlex Fleming Beach style with Maui HT™ lenses. These lenses are designed for days when most lenses would be too dark. “They are great for early morning, late afternoon or on foggy days; and they let me see through the water better,” shares Mills.

·   On bright, sunny days, he pulls out a pair of Peahi with neutral gray lenses because these lenses cut the most light. Mills offers, “I love how Maui Jim glasses ‘squint’ for you with the mirroring technology. Plus everything is brighter and more colorful because of their PolarizedPlus®2 technology that uses rare earth elements.”

Steve Henderson, owner of Steamboat Flyfisher, is a Federation of Fly Fishers Certified Instructor. He grew up in Virginia fishing smallmouth creeks; then moved to Colorado in the early 1990s and developed an expertise in mountain fishing. His sunglass portfolio includes:

·    My current favorite Maui Jim sunglasses,” says Steve, “are the Kaimana with the HCL® Bronze lens. The frame is extra sturdy and has proven tough, season after season of hard use. The full frame and slight wrap help shade my eyes for better sight fishing.”

·    “The HCL Bronze lens is the best all-round option for fishing, in my opinion,” adds Steve. “Moving from shadows to full sun, or when looking under the water at the bottom, from a sand flat to a mountain stream, this lens highlights perfectly. Of course, the PolarizedPlus®2 lenses produce true colors and I get no eye fatigue. I see more fish with these glasses than any other brand I have ever worn”

·   “If I could pick a second favorite pair, it would be the Maui HT™ lens,” comments Steve. “On cloudy, days or when you’re fishing in a rain or snow storm, these lenses offer protection when casting a fly, cut glare and highlight better than any yellow lenses I've worn.”

Greg Gondella is the owner of HookJaw Outfitters and a guide in New York State and on the west branch of the Delaware River where his expertise is in catching salmon, trout and steelhead. He wears Maui Jim’s Island Time in Striped Rootbeer; Lagoon in Neutral Grey/Gloss Black; Stingray with Maui HT lenses; Cyclone with HCL Bronze lenses and HT103-10 (HT/Tortoise); and MauiFlex Fleming Beach in Silver with Blue and Neutral Grey lenses.

Noted fishing guide, Brian Jarrell, hails from Louisiana where he developed his techniques in both freshwater and saltwater locations. Brian is known as an exceptional mountain fishing guide and was instrumental in the development of the Steamboat Flyfisher School. On bright days, Brian wears Canoes with an HCL Bronze lens. On cloudy days, he brings out his Peahi with the Maui HT lens.
