Guy Harvey Sand Carved Glass sponsored The Carolina Billfish Classic on June the 22nd with much excitement and enthusiasm! A 6′ foot banner of Guy Harvey Sand Carved Glass by Lex Melfi was displayed at the docks for all to view. The air was filled with anticipation for the following days of competition. Beautiful Sportfishers lined Tollers Cove Marina, as crews arrived for registration. This prestigious tournament is the first billfish series with multi-port locations. Fisherman scrambled to purchase last minute rigs from Atlantic Game and Tackle, who was strategically located on the dock to entice these friendly but fierce competitors. A wide array of tackle dangled in front of them and chatter ensued as to whether a red and black lumo sprocket was the best route over a Guacamaya rig for catching the big ones.
We all gathered at Goldbug Island for a wonderful flounder dinner with all the fixins’, live music and incredible views! Jimmy Johnson with Charleston Outdoor Catering, certainly knows how feed some hungry outdoorsmen and trust me when I say that I’m quite the “foodie” who loves fish! The Captains bags were filled with complimentary Guy Harvey Magazines for all crew members and a 1 yr. subscription to the magazine was offered to the winners of the tournament including all calcuttas! Lex Melfi’s Sand Carved Glass was admired by all and questions arose as to whether we could install such a beautiful piece in the galley of their boats.
I was asked to speak in front of this large crowd and did so reluctantly. I swallowed hard, shook off my bad nerve and went on with speaking about the glass carvings as well as promoting the magazine. Thought I did pretty well until I was told by my group that either I whispered or something was wrong with the mic! Debatable. Will have to do it all over again on Friday. I certainly can’t think of a better crowd to speak in front of!
